Plantar fasciitis can make the first few steps in the morning miserable. It can also make standing for long periods, walking at work, exercising, or simply getting through the day more frustrating than it should be. Our goal is to identify what is driving the irritation and build a treatment plan that helps calm the tissue down and improve how the foot and lower leg are functioning.
Schedule an Appointment View All ServicesPlantar fasciitis is irritation of the thick band of tissue along the bottom of the foot called the plantar fascia. This tissue helps support the arch and plays an important role in how your foot absorbs and transfers force when you walk or run.
When that tissue becomes overloaded, irritated, or repeatedly stressed, pain often develops near the heel or along the bottom of the foot. In many patients, the pain is worst with the first few steps in the morning or after sitting for a while, then may loosen up some before becoming painful again with more activity.
Pain that is especially noticeable when getting out of bed in the morning or standing after sitting.
Discomfort that worsens with long periods of standing, walking, or being on your feet throughout the day.
Many patients also notice tightness in the arch, heel cord, or calf muscles.
Symptoms may flare after exercise, work, long walks, or repeated loading through the foot.
Plantar fasciitis is often related to repeated stress on the bottom of the foot. That stress can come from long hours on your feet, sudden increases in walking or exercise, poor footwear, tight calves, limited ankle mobility, flat feet, high arches, weight gain, or movement patterns that overload the heel and arch.
In some cases, the problem is mostly local to the foot. In others, the way the ankle, calf, knee, or hip moves may be contributing to the strain. That is why good treatment often involves more than just focusing on the sore heel.
At Relief Plus, treatment is based on your symptoms, exam findings, and the factors that appear to be keeping the tissue irritated. Depending on your condition, your treatment plan may include:
The goal is not just to reduce pain temporarily, but to improve how the foot and lower leg handle load so the tissue has a better chance to recover.
We evaluate the foot, ankle, calf, and movement mechanics that may be contributing to the problem.
Patients have access to physical therapy, shockwave therapy, laser therapy, and other supportive treatments in one place.
Your plan is built around your work demands, activity level, symptoms, and goals.

A common sign is heel pain that is worst with the first steps in the morning or after sitting, then may loosen up before becoming painful again with more activity.
